Give Yourself Permission to Flow
In the midst of our busy lives, it's easy to overlook the importance of intentional creative expression. Yet, it is an essential aspect of our well-being, offering us a pathway to emotional relief and satisfaction. Imagine a life where you could relax and create without worrying about who will like it, or even if you will like it. Imagine you finding joy in the act of making art.
Consider this: what if you allowed yourself to let go of the need for perfection and simply went with the flow? What if you embraced spontaneity and allowed your creativity to guide you, rather than trying to control every outcome? This shift in mindset can lead to incredible discoveries about yourself and your artistic abilities.
Start by taking a moment to do something creative, whether it's doodling, writing, or even just daydreaming. Notice how it feels to let go of expectations and simply enjoy the process. The key is to notice how it feels to you. Are you enjoying it? Is it more a burden than a joy? You may be surprised at the ideas and inspiration that come to you when you allow yourself to make art from a place of pure intention.
As you embark on your creative journey, remember that it's not about achieving a certain level of skill or recognition. It's about expressing yourself authentically and finding joy in the act of creation. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, there is value in every mark you make and every thought you put to paper.
Take inspiration from the world around you, from the beauty of nature to the stories of those who have come before you. Let these sources of inspiration guide you as you explore your own creative voice. Some sources of inspiration for me as of late have been the lives of the saints. Your inspiration may be different. It may even surprise you to find what you are inspired by. Lean into it. And remember, there is no right or wrong way to make art; the important thing is that you are expressing yourself in a way that feels true to you and doing your best.
So, I invite you to take a moment today to embrace your God-given creativity in whatever form it may take. Whether you're painting a masterpiece or simply doodling in a notebook, dancing or telling a story, allow yourself to be fully present in the moment and enjoy the process. Allow yourself to let go of burdensome expectations and simply enjoy the process. Who knows what amazing discoveries you might make about yourself and your creativity along the way?
